In areas that are not productive enough to support cattle, sheep are the typical livestock grazed.

Sheep are reared both for their meat as well as for wool.

The majority of Idaho's sheep graze on public rangelands. Historically tended by Basque Shepherds, today flocks are more typically driven by Peruvian highlanders.
