Overview:
The City of Rocks encompasses 14,300 acres of land renowned for its scenic, geologic, and historic significance. It has been designated as a natural and historic national landmark and is under study by the Bureau of Land Management and the National Park Service. This exercise will allow students to learn about this unique area.

Objectives:
1. Students will learn how to use the Digital Atlas.
2. Students will learn about the geology and history of a unique area.

Procedure:
Use the Parks and Monuments section of the Digital Atlas of Idaho. To get there: Click on Atlas Home, Geology, Parks and Monuments, Silent City of Rocks, then on Start Reserve Module. Have your students read through the City of Rocks pages and encourage them to click on the links to see pictures about the area.
